Every time I take on and carry my fishing rods bags and go on to the McKenzie River, my heart pumps up with severe excitement. And for a few likely reasons. The very first being that the McKenzie River is one of my favorite places to go fishing. But first check out GoldenHobbyist. The McKenzie River also offers great fly fishing for wild trout almost year round. Throughout the spring, big wild reside rainbows cruise the lower river looking for big stoneflies and March Brown mayflies. Dry fly action can be hot, even when the weather is still cold. Lots of cutthroats throughout this section as well
The summer will bring another heavenly experience as through the summer, anglers will head upriver to the rapid strewn, classic sections of the McKenzie. Anglers will ply the turquoise, turbulent waters with an expert oarsman. You just might catch Bigfoot.Whereas the fall is a fantastic time to fish the McKenzie, as foliage changes, summer crowds thin and the October Caddis hatch begins going off. It’s also the time of year we host the Annual McKenzie River Two-Fly Tournament because it’s often when you can catch your biggest trout of the year. The wide variety of fish that you can find here is also very exciting. One of the most common fish you can find here is the Middle Fork Willamette Trout Fishing. The Upper Willamette River is an excellent option for fly fishing for native trout, flowing out of the springs in the foothills of the Cascades just south of Oakridge, OR. There are some very large, wild fish in the Upper Willamette, and plenty of insect activity. This river has a different character from the McKenzie, but the hatch timing and fishing can be very similar. Check out GuideForfishers for some juicy insight on fishing. The Willamette River Steelhead is also something that you can very easily find on the McKenzie waters. The Willamette River runs through downtown Springfield and Eugene and can produce some monster hatchery steelhead throughout the late summer and early fall. The river can be surprisingly gorgeous despite this urban setting, and when the fishing is on, it’s fantastic. Good Spey casting water, as well as opportunities to fish for steelhead out of the boat. Overall, the McKenzie waters and the whole area around it is an excellent place to explore and go fishing with your mates. It is not only beautiful but the overall fishing experience that it will provide you is just excellent. So the next time you are planning to set up your fishing rods bags and go on an adventure make sure you go there.
